Day of Action against gambling addiction
Germany once more is taking the lead, and has prepared a Day of Action against gambling addiction under the motto Gambling damage- recognize, name and avoid.
The GGL, German Gambling Authority, has published extensive articles to outline on how to battle gambling addiction and prevention of youths drifting into addiction.
In this article
- Gambling addiction, signs and help
- Gambling reality vs regulations
- Editors opinion
- SPEAK up and report – How to complain and report, get HELP
Editors opinion – A closer look at Gambling
Dear Readers
Please allow me to express my thoughts, and some controversial words. Gambling, I am excluding the game of chance of online gaming for now, has been around for ages. Poor or rich, it has enhanced their way of interaction and togetherness. The rich were betting on cattle, life of a person or materials. The poor mostly on the outcome of an event to simplify.
An addiction is a condition where a person has developed a behavior or substance use, which can cause harm to their health, relationships, and disruption in their daily life. The repeated urge to engage with the substance or behavior becomes strongly engraved in their daily life and often results in uncontrollable engagement.
Signs of addiction
Some signs of addiction are common and well known, but the person suffering from addiction might be in a fragile position and hides the fact. BE SUPPORTIVE of each other.
- Disruption and of daily life – negative results and consequences despite the knowledge of problems
- Tolerance level and craving of the substance or behavior increases or is hard to stop
- Difficulty to stop – the behavior or substance becomes the dominant part in their life
But back to the GGL and their day of recognition of gambling addiction. Regulators have made some really good changes to a Wild West gambling market. With introductions such as Responsible gambling acts, age restrictions for minors, regulations on waterings, and self-exclusions, just to name a few. The combined effort to stem the wave of reports on addiction and reported loss of control of an ever growing number of players seem to have little effect on the majority of players.

Gambling reality vs regulations
Gambling reality vs regulations has been looked at for some time now, and efforts to control this influx of complaints and requests for help within the gambling sector are on the increase. Regulating markets and introducing transparency are key to a healthy gambling sector. But let me throw in some points here. Casino has widely accepted a white, grey and black casino market. Please feel free to read more about black listed casinos in our recent article.

Regulations are designed to give guidance and a streamlined effort to control and set rules for all. But the elephant in the room for gambling is frankly spoken TAX and huge income for the government. Applying huge taxation on online casinos, land based casinos and doesn’t help anyone. If the money is used to battle addiction and offer a safer online experience, YES please. But this is not the case at all. Players excluded by regulations and implementation of questionable rules will exit the safe white regulated market, and finding another gambling platform in neighboring countries. A word to the government here, that doe make your figures look pretty , but the reality is, numbers are still growing, slower but the numbers are growing in your neighboring country and will catch up on you. A good example are credit card statements and crypto casino providers, which are booming. Less regulation more players from Germany and other countries.
